Those of you who visited my previous blog sites know that I am deeply interested in user interface design and the evolution of how applications will be accessed by users in the future.

I recently happened to talk to a software developer of one of the companies I work with. We quickly discussed user interface trends and he was the sort of developer who believes that graphical user interfaces should better never have been invented and all you need is a command shell.

Well, one of the root cause for non-usable user interfaces are developers who simply think too techy.

I will elaborate more on this topic soon but I’d like to share a prototype of a multi-touch device with you now:

(The technology shown in this movie has been invented by Jeff Han, who founded perceptive pxiel.)

While this might seem futuristic to our generation (it might even remind us to some blockbuster movies…) we will definitely see these things happen all over. Our children will be used to Media Center enabled TV’s, computers which listen to spoken commands and a level of in-car-entertainment like it has never been there before.

I plan to investigate the new challenges this trend means for user interface design in further blog posts. Stay tuned!

After having watched Bill Gates launching Windows Vista in New York two days ago, I directly went over to Apple’s iTunes Store to purchase the latest album from Angels & Airwaves. So today Microsoft made Apple a bit richer.

By the way: I’ve never heard of Angels & Airwaves (AVA) before and I don’t know whether they might be popular in the US but I’ve to to say it’s one of the best pieces of rock music that came out in the last couple of years. And I’m saying this while I’m a huge U2 fan… so go, check it out! (No affiliate Amazon links in this blog.)
